Annual Summer StART Workshop
for 6-12th Grade
** This program is currently suspended **
This full day art workshop celebrates a milestone for those graduating, and the beginning of summer break for everyone. Youth from schools all around Lexington join together for a day of fun, friendship, food and creativity. Students will transform common materials into amazing, imaginative works of art. They’ll share a delightful lunch at a local restaurant and be treated royally while learning the importance of supporting locally grown food and locally owned businesses. At the end of the day, students will proudly exhibit their artwork at a celebration with family and friends.
Cost: $75 (needs-based scholarships are available)
We held Session I of the 15th Annual Summer StART at Lexington’s GreenFest, “the place to learn about living sustainably while having fun!” Students created a touchable work of art using (and reusing) a variety of leftover and discarded materials–wallpaper samples, puzzle pieces, cotton balls, buttons, and more. They participated in a cardboard challenge and then marched with their cardboard creations in a parade with our fabulous local ‘March Madness Marching Band’.
During Session 2 students made wire sculptures with Luke Eldridge and tye-dyed T-shirts with Darby Harper, at Homegrown Collectives, an artist run gallery and shop.
